An inventive development
A project has created a stunning building with distinctive curved glazing. The scheme was a collaboration between DROO and NAME. The boutique development V1 Castle Lane has 3 townhouses as well as 28 apartments. It is in the Birdcage Walk Conservation Area, a historic spot in Westminster.
The scheme used a contemporary curving design to reinterpret the traditional English bay window. The design of the undulating walls was a response to the conservation area. This helped negotiate the varied nature of the townhouses and mansions. Landsec initiated the project and the design process then involved collaborating with NAME architecture. Luxury developer Sons & Co oversaw the work until completion.
The brief was to create a residential development that was innovative. This was for a site home to two streets with different character, Victorian mansion blocks and terrace townhouses. The scheme gives the area a design inspired by the mansion block but merged with townhouses on a domestic scale.
