Award winners
The Green Flag Awards celebrate the best parks in the UK and various other parts of the world. They acknowledge wonderful spaces that are well managed (including outstanding work by volunteers) and provide great value to their communities. Celebrating their 30th anniversary this year, almost 2,400 green spaces in Britain got awards.
As we said, London has some really amazing parks. The Green Flag Awards are proof of that. Overall, there are 414 award winners in the city, across the various boroughs. This is the biggest total of any region.
Areas
Looking at the most recent results, Hackney is once again the top location in London for Green Flag Awards. It has an impressive 34, with more than half of the Borough’s 58 parks holding an award. Notably, Clapton Common got one to add to the 33 from 2025. This is lovely recognition of the work that has gone into improving it, including the refurbishment of the play area and nature walk. As well as Clapton Common, many of Hackney’s most popular parks retained their Green Flag status. This includes Clissold Park, Springfield Park, and London Fields. There are plenty of gems too, such as Kynaston Gardens and Shore Gardens.
Close behind Hackney with 33 Green Flag parks is Westminster. Of all the areas in London, it is the most famous for having a lot of greenery. It is home to three iconic royal parks (Hyde Park, St James’s, and Green Park), as well as many other wonderful spaces. In 2026 it also had a newly recognised space; Paddington Street Gardens.
Taking third place on the list is Southwark with 30 awards. There are some fantastic, well-known parks here, including Burgess Park and Dulwich Park. Many local favourites have Green Flags too, such as Russia Dock Woodlands and Sunray Gardens.
