A private development becomes affordable housing

The Kingswood Nurseries site in Enfield was originally intended to become the home of new private housing. The initial plan would have created just 8 affordable homes. Progress with the project was not made though and the site was subsequently purchased by Bramble Estates. They now plan to create a £15 million development of 56 affordable homes.

The change is fantastic for the site and will deliver homes that residents in this popular part of London need. The project is expected to be completed in 2020. The 56 new homes will be built in two blocks and include;

5 four bedroom town houses
9 houses – 7 two bedroom and 2 three bedroom (all with roof terraces)
42 flats – a mixture of one, two and three bed self-contained apartments

The majority of the homes will be made available for part-rent part-purchase, helping people to get on the property market. The final 8 properties will be for affordable rent.

The site will also be developed to improve access roads, create parking spaces for cars and bicycles, and storage space for binds. Extensive landscaping will be done too, improving the aesthetics of the site and the quality of the outdoor space.

The change in project is interesting for a number of reasons. Firstly it sees the focus shift to affordable housing, helping to make homes more accessible. It also shows that housing associations can achieve great things if they work fast to secure sites and are willing to take on challenging projects.
