In April Transport for London (TfL) said they will develop land around Harrow-on-the-Hill Station and Northwood Tube Station. Consequently, the two sites will allow the creation of 600 and 150 homes respectively. Both sites will be 35% affordable housing.
Step free access
One of the big selling points of the developments is that the proposals call for step free development in places. This will help to open up both locations, resulting in a more accessible town centre in Harrow-on-the-Hill. This will not only benefit locals; visitors to the area will also find it easier to move around.
Access to great services
Both sites are ideally located for commuters. The 2.5 acre Harrow-on-the-Hill site is served by the Metropolitan Line and is located in Zone 5. Northwood is on the same route but is in Zone 6. This site is almost double the size at 4.7 acres.
The entire project is not just housing though. There will be new commercial developments and public realm spaces at each site. Harrow-on-the-Hill station will receive new facilities and the local bus station will have a redesign. Northwood bus interchange will also receive improvements.
TfL is leading development
These two sites in Harrow join a number of plots Transport for London has brought forward for redevelopment. They are working hard to free up more public land so that new homes can be built. This is important because they own many sites in attractive locations close to transport links.
