Archway is a suburban area in the north west of the London Borough of Islington. It has grown in popularity as a place to live over the last few years thanks to investments in improving the town centre. Transport for London (TfL) took an active hand in this project as part of £4 billion modernisation works.
The major problem with the area was the gyratory system. The one way traffic created countless problems and the area had dramatically outgrown the outdated design. Modernisation was needed and TfL obliged, creating a two way system, new cycling routes, and a central piazza. The work began in 2016 and is set to be completed this year.
The improvements have helped to make Archway more welcoming and easier to navigate for road users and cyclists alike. Residents and visitors who use the local Tube station can step outside straight into the brand new public space.
When the plans for the area were initially announced in 2015 it was believed that the work would help to open up access to the attractive stock of fine Victorian terraced houses. The affordable prices in the area, particularly in comparison to neighbouring areas like Highgate, make it a good option for buyers who wanted to make their money go further.
