Beckton is one of the most eastern urban neighbourhoods in the London Borough of Newham. It was initially a stretch of marshland but the rapid expansion of the capital brought transformation. Merton schools continue to perform very well
The Department for Education recently released the revised results for Progress 8 on January 25th. It checks the results students have earned as they have progressed from Key Stage 2 on to Key Stage 4. Grades in up to eight different subjects are considered, including English, Maths, Sciences, Computer Science, and Languages. Continue reading
Plans to develop estates throughout Lambeth
The Homes for Lambeth group of companies were established so the local council could play a more active role in creating housing in the Borough. Potential changes to short term lets in Kensington and Chelsea
Kensington and Chelsea Council are commissioning a report into short term lets in the Borough. They took this action after receiving a number of complaints over the last two years regarding anti-social behaviour. The results of the report could be the introduction of new licensing. Continue reading
A planning award for Hounslow’s new park
Last year we reported on plans for a new park in Hounslow that were a little unusual. The Rectory Park project aimed to design a green space for the public whilst also creating warehouses. Regenerating the housing stock in Havering
Havering Council recently revealed they had chosen a preferred bidder to help with their plan to regenerate the housing stock in the Borough. The project is large, including 12 different estates across the area. Over the next 12 years they will be regenerated, creating new, higher quality homes. Continue reading
A big decision regarding two huge housing estates in west London
Earlier in January Hammersmith and Fulham Council rejected Capco’s new masterplan for two estates in the Borough. The authority decided they could not agree with the developer’s proposals to increase density. They also did not approve of the amount of affordable housing provided in the plan. Continue reading
First time buyers in London has a good 2017
Last year was quite a positive one for first time buyers in London. According to the latest figures around 50% of the total homes sold in the capital were to these buyers. This was the highest percentage since 2001. It marks a period when local councils across the capital have been doing more to encourage developers to build more affordable homes. New Early Years Hubs for Barnet
Earlier in January London Mayor Sadiq Khan revealed that Barnet would be one of the locations where Early Years Hubs will be set up. These facilities will be in place to help improve access to early years education for disadvantages children in parts of the capital. Barking and Dagenham remains the most affordable area in London
At the end of December 2017 Barking and Dagenham showed that it remained the most affordable area in the whole of London. The data for average house prices from the ONS and Land Registry showed it was the only Borough in the capital to have an average below the £300,000 mark. This was even after a year when prices rose by 2.5%, slightly above the 2.1% average for the capital. Continue reading
