A new £200 million regeneration scheme for Clapton in Hackney

Hackney Council’s planning committee recently approved a new £200 million regeneration scheme in Clapton in the London Borough of Hackney. The project will see the creation of 400 new homes on the vacant two hectare Nightingale estate site.

The project will be the next stage of the redevelopment of the site. Social Housing Trust has already built 300 affordable homes in the area. These will be joined by 400 new residences including a mix of properties designated for social rent, shared ownership and a selection that will be made available to buy.

Alongside the homes a community centre, cafe, and retail space will be built on the site. This will benefit the new residents as well as existing ones, giving them more facilities to make use of. The business space will be well received, particularly in such a prominent location.

The Clapton project is part of Hackney Council’s estate regeneration programme and coincides with their commitment to create new homes for residents. The social rent, shared ownership and affordable nature of the properties means they will be more accessible to people who struggle to pay the high prices in the private sector.

Clapton in Hackney is a popular destination thanks to its great transport links and property prices. The redevelopment and regeneration work that is going on continues to attract new people too, both buyers and renters.
