What is the future for Barking town centre?

The MIPIM international property conference brought together specialists from various fields. This includes city planning as well as architecture and investment. One of the most incredible projects put on display is a plan for the new Barking town centre. It would see the creation of 2,200 new homes as well as leisure and retail space.

The proposals are by Weston Williamson + Partners working for Be First, Barking and Dagenham Council’s urban regeneration company. They show a huge amount of ambition and also the desire to create a town centre that will enrich the lives of local residents.

A grid of open spaces

One of the most interesting parts of the proposal is the creation of a series of green squares and courtyards. This loose grid will help make the area greener and give locals more access to open space. It will also connect the new development with existing parks and spaces.

Regenerating the train station

The project would also regenerate the local train station. The fast rail links in the area are a major selling point for commuters. The revamp will make it even better whilst also retaining important features. For one the architecturally significant roof will be protected.

The plans could have a big impact on Barking and the wider Borough. This project could be the start of wider regeneration work that will make the area more pleasant for residents. The new retail space could also attract more businesses.

At Finefair we keep an eye on large projects like this one. It is great to see local councils showing such ambition and encouraging plans that improve the local area.

We are proud to work in this forward thinking Borough and can offer many useful services. For example we are the very best for estate management Barking and Dagenham has to offer. This means we are happy to handle managing all kinds of estates and will give clients access to many benefits.
