A university investing for the future

Kingston Upon Thames is a popular area for students due to the presence of the university. Four campuses are spread across the Borough, offering a wide range of different undergraduate courses, postgraduate work, and further education.

Knights Park is the home of the Faculty of Art, Design & Architecture. It was recently announced that the New Extension building on this campus will receive a robust refurbishment including alterations to the exterior and roof, the installation of new cladding, improvements to access, and a refurbished interior. Stirling Prize winning architects Haworth Tompkins will take on the project.

The work will make Kingston School of Art one of the most advanced facilities in the UK. New equipment will be installed, including the latest design technology, and advanced workshops will be created.

As part of the project the architects will seek to preserve as many elements of the factory style design of the building as possible. For example the articulated concrete frame, engineered brickwork and towers for stairs and lifts will be retained. Worn out elements and those that restrict the performance of the building will be replaced.

The project is the second for Kingston University following plans for Town House on the Penrhyn Road campus. It showcases that the university is working hard to ensure it can meet the needs of students in the future.

At Finefair we understand the impact close proximity to a university can add to property prices. It can make homes into very attractive investment properties due to the steady stream of tenants each year.
