In December stunning pictures of one of the largest pieces of property investment Wandsworth has seen in the last decade were revealed. The new US Embassy at Nine Elms in Battersea is stunning inside and out. It has a number of high tech features, including advanced security measures to keep inhabitants safe.
The idea to relocate the US Embassy from Grosvenor Square in Mayfair to a new purpose-built property was first announced in 2008. The Nine Elms property is scheduled to open on January 16th 2018, meaning it will have taken almost a decade to complete the project.
The new building is believed to have cost in the region of $1billion or £749million. This budget was spent on various things like acquiring a site, design, and construction. The funds were raised by selling off US Government property assets in London.
The move to this part of Wandsworth is a very interesting one, particularly with the expectation that the area could become a new hotspot for business. Battersea Power Station is a large scale regeneration project and news stories in the past have hinted Apple could look to create a headquarters on the site. Many other tech companies could follow suit because of the additional space being created in the area.
There are many benefits to choosing to live and work in the area. After-all it is Zone 1 and offers incredible transport links across the whole city. There are also plenty of amenities to enjoy and the whole area has a presence that people love.
The new US Embassy is definitely a noteworthy piece of property investment and could further enrich this part of London. It is particularly exciting because the new building replaces old warehouses and will create new jobs too.
