Innovations in transport in Waltham Forest

Areas across London have very interesting histories. Finefair like to share information about them with people, especially if they are considering investing locally. This is one of the reasons we have such a great reputation. The other reason is we strive to offer the most value, setting us up as the best for council leasing Waltham Forest has.

Innovative transport

A number of high profile developments took place in this London Borough. One of the first was in 1882 when the first tram in Britain driven by batteries was built. As a result the UK became one of the hotspots for trams.

In 1892 the first British four wheel car with an internal combustion engine was complete in Walthamstow. It was a project of Frederick William Bremer as well as his assistant Tom Bates. The car went on tour in 1984 around the local area to show it worked.

London has always been famous for its buses, particularly the red double decker. Incredibly the first standardised B Type double-deck bus was built in Walthamstow in 1910.

In 1968 the first fully-automated underground railway in the world opened in Britain. Walthamstow Central and Blackhorse Road were two of the stations on the Victoria Line, giving locals quick connections to Islington. Further sections of the route opened in following years. Today marks the 50th anniversary of the opening of the line.

Waltham Forest is a popular suburban Borough for several reasons, including the transport links. Alongside the Victoria Line, two stations in the area are on the Central Line. There are also ten train stations and good bus services.
