Two landlords in the north west of England have entered merger talks.
Helena Partnerships, based in St Helens, and Warrington-based Golden Gates Housing Trust are in early discussions about forming a new 22,000 home group.

Landlords face a selective licensing fee of 30,000 buy to let properties in Waltham Forest
After Newham’s pioneering scheme in which 35,000 rental homes were registered, landlords in Waltham Forest are now facing licensing of all buy to let properties. Councillors in the borough have announced a consultation running until January 24, 2014 to invite comments about this new proposal.
Fraud risks for landlords
Many landlords are concerned about the risk of identity fraud. New studies into the subject have revealed the highest risk areas for landlords.
London’s East Ham area sees the most instances of ID fraud, according to new data gathered by Experian. Fraud attempts happen around seven times more often than the national average here. Some other London areas were also identified as high-risk spots, including Woolwich, Walthamstow, Bexleyheath, Stratford, Lewisham and Enfield, to name just a few.
Newshare scheme will help Newham residents to get on the housing ladder
A new shared equity scheme has been brought in by Newham council. This scheme, called Newshare, will initially provide 1,220 affordable homes for families who are unable to afford a property purchase on their own, with the potential to expand even further in the future.
Birmingham hotel providing accommodation for 40 homeless families
In response to a growing housing crisis in Newham, the local council is currently paying for around forty families to live at a hotel in Birmingham.
This milestone deal could create thousands of new homes
A new deal has been signed by council leaders in Southampton and Portsmouth, in collaboration with the government. This deal will give the local councils access to funding which will be spent on developing much-needed new housing.

Is your property vacant?
When a property is left vacant, it could be at risk of being occupied by squatters. Unauthorised occupation is on the increase, and the longer the property is left empty, the greater the risk. There are various dangers associated with squatting, including fire hazards, expensive damage to the premises, and the risk that the squatters will refuse to leave when you need the property for authorised tenants, meaning you lose out on valuable income and become involved in a time-consuming struggle to get rid of them.
