Mixed-Use Development Approval
A huge building is soon going to be a new part of Brent. The council’s planning committee approved the Barratt London development in Watkin Road. Workers will transform the garage in Wembley into over 200 homes as well as affordable workspaces.
At the moment the site is the home of single story red-brick buildings for car repairs. This will turn into a block up to 23 storeys. The mixed-use development will be a fantastic new use for the site.
The scheme will create a vast amount of work space which will provide up to 55 new jobs. Not including the blue badge spaces, the car free aspect of the project will also help to encourage the use of sustainable transport.
Members of the planning committee that approved the plan looked closely at various aspects. Examples of this were the design and the amount of affordable homes. This helped to ensure it addressed the housing needs of Brent and benefited the borough.
An impressive 67 of the 217 planned homes at the location will be classed as affordable. Also, a large number of the private flats will be on the market for under £600,000. This will make them eligible for the ‘Help to Buy’ scheme.
The building work looks like it will start in April with the first section scheduled for completion in June 2021. The timeframe for the end of the project is November 2021.
Wembley Park has already had some serious regeneration. This addition will be another great thing for the area.
