Exciting milestone for Britannia masterplan

At the beginning of June, the Britannia masterplan hit an impressive milestone. We want to have a closer look at it here, and what it means for Hoxton. Then, if you want to arrange services like guaranteed rent and property management in Hackney, you can rely on us.

All change for the area

Property management HackneyThe Britannia Leisure Centre was a really important amenity for the local community in Hoxton. However, it was ageing and becoming a financial burden. The decision was made to redevelop the site, including the building and neighbouring land. Ultimately, we got a masterplan that is the largest public sector project in the area in decades.

The redevelopment has three phases. The first, complete in 2021, gave the area a brand new Britannia Leisure Centre in a stunning building. It has modern facilities, including two pools, a large sports hall, and more. The second phase saw the delivery of a brand new secondary school. The City of London Academy Shoreditch Park has impressive facilities and places for over 1,100 students, boys and girls, from 11-19.

Phase three focuses on delivering new housing for the area. This includes 290 private homes, as well as 51 social rent and 30 shared ownership properties. The sales of the former will help to fund the other two types of housing. Construction got underway in 2023, and earlier this month there was a ceremony to celebrate the social housing hitting a milestone and topping out.

The goal is to complete the new homes in Hoxton by spring 2026. The private homes will be really attractive to various buyers because of the amazing location close to Shoreditch Park and lots of amenities. If you invest and want to arrange property management in Hackney, you can rely on us.

All in the name

As well as the topping out ceremony, we got news that the two blocks for social rent homes have names to celebrate two members of BRAFA. The British Reggae Artists Famine Appeal is a huge part of the local culture. The group had a charity single in 1985 and a charity concert in the area in 1986 to raise money for famine relief in Ethiopia.

Two key members of BRAFA have been celebrated by giving their names to the new housing blocks. The first is Gene Rondo House, honouring the vocalist and co-founder of the group. Born in Jamaica, he moved to London in the 60s. He made a lasting impact on the reggae scene and did a huge amount of community work, leaving a wonderful legacy in Hackney.

The second block will be Joy Mack House. She is one of the most revered female reggae singers from the 70s and 80s. Similar to Rondo, she was born in Jamaica before moving to London in the 60s. Her legacy in Hackney is undeniable, including performing and recording locally, as well as spending years as an educator.
