The latest project here involves work at Lyndhurst Park and the Meads. These green spaces are fantastic for the community. However, there is a higher risk of flooding, especially during periods of very heavy rain. To address this, the slopes of Burnt Oak Brook will be adapted, stabilising them. There will also be new flood basins to store rainwater and reduce the flood risk. In addition, there will be new trees, wetland planting, meadows, and landscaping in the parks.

Park transformation
Work is also underway to improve West Hendon Playing Fields. Phase one of the project is progressing, including new playing equipment, tennis courts, a 3×3 basketball court, benches, and picnic tables. This stage will provide improvements to the entrance and drainage, plus a new foot and cycling link too.
Plans are also in the works for Phase two of the transformation. They will aim to provide even more amenities, such as an all-weather sports pitch and a new cafe. However, Barnet Council will need to secure extra funds.
It’s great to see work like this taking place. The goal is to improve parks to benefit local people, providing more opportunities to stay fit and healthy. Additional projects are already complete, such as Montrose Playing Fields. A project at Rushgrove Park will begin in the near future too.
