Plans for new homes at Fish Island

The development of Olympic Park and regeneration of nearby areas made it a fantastic place to live. Fish Island has become one of the most popular neighbourhoods. It’s fashionable and really attractive to creatives. The amenities, sense of safety, and community vibes attract lots of people. It could become even better in the future too with some new plans to create more homes. Let’s have a look, then you can rely on us if you want to arrange block management in Tower Hamlets.

Iceland Wharf

Block management Tower HamletsThe first project recently got planning approval from Tower Hamlets Council. It will see the redevelopment of vacant land on Iceland Road. The project will deliver four new buildings. Critically, this will provide 165 homes, including 89 affordable. In addition there will be new flexible space for businesses and play areas.

While this project got planning approval, there was a big bone of contention. Several neighbours and stakeholders were critical of the height and massing of the new buildings. The tallest block will be twelve storeys. As a result, there are big fears it will overshadow neighbouring properties, especially at Ink Court.

On giving approval, Council officers said that even though there will be overshadowing, the benefits balance the harm. They chose to give permission because of the new homes and positives for the community, including a better public realm and green space. Neptune Wharf

The other project has the potential to create over 300 new homes at Wansbeck Road. It is still in its early stages, with developer McLaren submitting a screening opinion to Tower Hamlets Council. They were basically enquiring whether a project would need an Environmental Impact Assessment. Planning officers said at the start of the month that it would not.

While there isn’t a formal planning application yet, the submission did include some details about the proposals. The project would include two new buildings, redeveloping vacant land. They would provide 44 social rent homes and 280 co living units. Additionally, the project would create amenity and community spaces.

A notable thing here is the site itself. It’s a great location, between Victoria Park and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Previously, it was chosen as a potential site for a new primary school. However, falling numbers and schools struggling to fill places in many parts of London mean it is no longer necessary. It opens the door for alternative uses like new housing.
