London could become a film-making powerhouse

London is a significant destination in hundreds of films, from Christmas classic Love Actually to franchises like Harry Potter and James Bond. In the future it could become a prime spot for film-making too. Incredible plans are in the works to create a new £1bn district with studios, education hubs, housing, and public space. We want to have a closer look here because it could have a huge impact on the area and the whole city. Then, if you want some help with investment properties in Camden, you can speak to us.

Kentish Town

Investment properties CamdenThe plans, with backing from Yoo Capital, are to create Camden Film Quarter. It would transform industrial land in Kentish Town, creating a bold new neighbourhood. The plans aim to put London at the forefront of the industry, supporting creatives working in movies and TV.

We got the first announcement of the proposals in March 2025. Then, in the middle of November we had the chance to view the first images of what the district will look like, including designs by SPPARC. An application for planning permission was also submitted to Camden Council.

There are some crucial details about the plans. The core of the development will be a new film studio. Interestingly, it will pioneer a new model for studios. Traditionally, they cover massive pieces of land; just imagine Hollywood in LA. However, space is limited in London. The answer here is to build upwards instead of outwards. The new vertical studio stacks production stages, including visual effects and post production, using the land more efficiently.

Other elements

The thing that makes the new Film Quarter so attractive is it won’t just focus on film-making. It will provide new housing and education too. The first could become some of the most interesting new investment properties in Camden.

The housing element of the plans is by Places for People. In a separate application they are proposing to build 485 homes (50% affordable). As a result, it will allow people to live in the amazing new neighbourhood, close to fantastic amenities.

One of the most crucial things about the film industry is it relies on an influx of talent. The new neighbourhood will provide this. Both the London Screen Academy (LSA) and the National Film and TV School (NFTS) are planning to open new campuses. Together they offer a huge range of courses and resources to help people get into the industry in various roles.

A massive goal with the project is to ensure the new neighbourhood encourages collaboration and creativity. With that in mind there will also be flexible workspaces, public parks, and more.
