Earlier this year the Sunday Times bestowed Walthamstow with the title of best place to live in London. It had a lot of praise for the area, including its vibrancy, diversity, and wonderful amenities. Crucially, judges said they could see why people loved it so much here. Now, the council is proposing changes that could bring more improvements. We want to have a closer look here. Then, if you want to talk to us about block management in Waltham Forest and other solutions, we’d be happy to.
Proposals
Waltham Forest Council is proposing to make key changes to Chingford Road, one of the main routes into Walthamstow. Crucially, they are looking to improve the section between Crooked Billet Roundabout (taking its name from a former pub) and Forest Road. It’s a busy section of road, home to shops and Sir George Monoux Sixth Form College.
The changes aim to make the road safer for pedestrians and cyclists. Additionally, the council wants to tackle issues to make local bus services more reliable. Plus, there is an opportunity to improve the public realm and create more green space.
In terms of cycling, the idea is to install safe, segregated bicycle lanes on both sides of the road. They will link Crooked Billet Roundabout to Farnan Avenue. As a result, it will encourage people to cycle if they use this route to get into Walthamstow.
One thing people love about the area, something that the Sunday Times referenced in their best places to live guide, is the excellent public transport. It makes it very popular, and worth a look for investors. We can help too, including with block management in Waltham Forest.
The train and Tube services are major assets. The local buses are great too. Improvements on Chingford Road would prevent disruption by removing parking and installing double yellow lines to prevent loading/unloading. It would improve bus journey times, especially at peak periods.
Addressing concerns
Waltham Forest Council also addresses different concerns people may have with the proposals. For example, there may be worries about the loss of parking. However, according to their data, the current spaces are underutilised. Critically, the removal of 21 bays outside the college will be offset by 12 new ones on the opposite side. Plus, there is space in nearby streets.
Another concern could be the loss of three mature trees. However, overall there will be a massive net gain thanks to new greening along the road. Even better, the proposals feature new pocket parks. This is great news because greenery can add a lot of value to property prices. It’s a good idea to think about that if you’re considering investments and block management in Waltham Forest or other areas.
Any potential impact on pedestrians is also addressed. Most importantly, there will be improvements for all current crossings to make them safer. Additionally, in total there will be four new crossings along the road, including at Evesham Avenue and Cazenove Road.
What next?
The Council is currently consulting about the proposals. Information is available on their website and any stakeholders can complete a survey to give their feedback. Plus, a drop in session is happening this weekend (15th Nov) at Walthamstow Library. It’s a great opportunity to ask questions and get details about the project.
