White City

Earlier this month we got the wonderful news that work to improve White City is complete. The project provides safer crossings, better cycling infrastructure, more greenery, improvements in drainage, and new surfacing for roads and pavements. Crucially, it improves connectivity in a busy part of the borough. This will benefit millions of people, including local residents, people who work in the area, and visitors.

The best thing about the project is it will be much easier to navigate the area now. For example, there are better connections between the Tube Station and Imperial College London, QPR FC’s Loftus Road, and Westfield. Work is also ongoing to create a direct cycling link connecting Shepherd’s Bush, White City, and West London.

Better play areas

We also got news recently that a campaign to improve parks and play areas in H&F has been successful. The Council is launching an £8.3m upgrade programme to invest in them and make play important again. It’s fantastic news for locals, visitors, and prospective investors. There are an impressive 95 playgrounds in H&F managed by the council. Of those, you’ll find 33 in parks and the remaining 62 on housing estates. Some are showing significant signs of wear, are unimaginative, and in some cases, are unsafe.

The new three year investment programme will ensure “consistent high quality play provision” according to the council. It will benefit local children, families, and visitors, as well as local businesses near playgrounds.

CCTV

Finally, H&F Council is spending £3m to improve their CCTV infrastructure. Crucially, they are planning to use AI and facial recognition tech to make the area safer. A big part of this is installing newer cameras in crime hotspots, such as near Tube stations. Opinions are split on the plans; some are praising the push to improve safety and tackle anti-social behaviour, while others are concerned about privacy and rights.
