Haringey Council continues to provide more social housing

Councils in all parts of London are working to address housing supply issues. Haringey Council is one of the most proactive. They’ve been driving construction in the area since 2018. A plan was put in place to deliver a new generation of council homes, the first major project in decades. Recently, they also gave the green light to add even more properties to their stock. In total, Haringey has over 2,000 new homes thanks to the Council’s programme. This includes a number in the pipeline and hundreds that are already complete. The Council has now given the green light for three more deals.

Secondly is 32 units at a scheme on nearby Lordship Lane. The locations are fantastic, close to local amenities, green space, and established communities.

The demand is highest for this type of property in London, especially when it comes to social housing. At the Roundway, 40% will be family size. The percentage at Lordship Lane is even higher, a fantastic 80%.

A new development

The third new project from Haringey Council is a development on Archway Road in Highgate. They’ve given approval to select a contractor for the build. It will create 16 new Passivhaus homes. There will be 10 family size homes here.

Council comments

Sarah Williams, Deputy Council Leader, had some comments about the projects. She said they are “another important step” in delivering more high quality, new affordable housing for residents. Crucially, they will be “life-changing” for the occupants, especially families.

She went on to say the council will continue the expansion of their housing stock “month on month, year on year” to achieve their goals. Most importantly, this will ensure locals will be able to access fair rents.
