Positive step for Huguenot House redevelopment

Back in 2017 Westminster City Council began considering the various options for the future of Huguenot House. Then, in 2021 they made the decision that the preference was to redevelop the building. More recently, in July 2025 they chose a delivery partner for the project. This is a positive step in the right direction. The building

Development partner

Westminster City Council began looking for the partners for the project in 2023. They’ve taken their time to choose the right experts. A big part of this was finding someone with experience in key areas, including high quality homes, cinemas, and offices. Additionally, the focus was to ensure the partner would be able to deliver the maximum community benefits, including jobs. Plus, the partner had to showcase their willingness to involve locals in their plans.

The council chose Altius and their partner Erith for the redevelopment. They said Altius’ credentials were the most impressive, exceeding all of the criteria. What next?

The next phase of the redevelopment of Huguenot House is to develop the design of the development. Then, there will need to be a period of public consultation. This will give various stakeholders the chance to give feedback and detail what they would like to see from the project. It could then result in changes to the proposals.

Once the design is finalised, it will be up to Altius to submit a planning application. If it gets approval at a later date, the responsibility will then go to Erith to do the construction.

David Boothroyd, the Cabinet Member for Finance and Council Reform, said the project was a “once in a generation opportunity”. The redevelopment will deliver “much needed affordable housing” as well as “vibrant community spaces”.

Westminster City Council also gave confirmation they will offer support for current residents and businesses. Crucially, there will be assistance during the project while residents are away from the property. It may even involve help with moving costs. Plus, they will have a right to return when the new, high quality homes are ready.
