Housing upgrade programme

Haringey Council has a £22m flagship programme to update all council homes so they meet the Government’s Decent Homes Standard (DHS). They want to achieve this by 2028. It will involve upgrades to hundreds of properties in various areas in the borough.

The Council is celebrating completion of the first phase of the housing upgrade programme. Work has now been complete on 103 of 234 homes in Noel Park. Upgrades have included new roofing, replacing windows and doors, and the installation of modern kitchens and bathrooms. Some properties have had repair work on brickwork too.

Noel Park is a really interesting part of Haringey. It is one of the earliest examples of a garden suburb in the world, dating back to the late Victorian period. The oldest properties here are from 1883. Everything was designed carefully at the time, including five different styles of home. Interestingly, the work also aims to improve air quality in the properties. Haringey Council is actually focusing on making the borough a better place for residents in this manner. In fact, they recently launched a consultation to see what people want to see to help tackle air pollution. The feedback will help to shape their five year action plan.
